The spice port of Allepey (or Alappuzha) in India has been known for its turmeric for centuries. With its distinctive deep orange colour and intense flavour. This Indian ground turmeric is considered the King of all turmeric because it contains the highest levels of Curcumin. In our batch of Allepey Turmeric 5.3% Curcumin!
In western cultures turmeric pops up as early as 600BC when Marco polo thought enough about it to include it in his journals. Long before that it was prized in Asia for its flavour and believed healing properties. In medieval Europe turmeric became known as Indian Saffron because of the similar colouring properties. Today you probably know turmeric as the main spice in a curry.
Along with being an excellent flavouring and colouring spice turmeric is known in Ayurvedic medicine as an antiseptic, an antioxidant and an anti-inflammatory. Turmeric and especially its most active compound curcumin have many scientifically-proven health benefits, and there have been numerous clinical studies into how curcumin benefits those with heart disease, Alzheimer’s, cancer and brain health. It’s a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant and may also help improve symptoms of depression and arthritis.
Turmeric and curcumin neutralize free radicals on their own but also stimulates your body’s own antioxidant enzymes. Chronic inflammation contributes to many common Western diseases. Curcumin can suppress many molecules known to play major roles in inflammation.
When dried this orange rhizome(root) is so dense that it could break the blades of most grinders and mills. So, it’s lucky we have done this for you! Turmeric, is a rhizome that is closely related to ginger, and it smells a bit like ginger and citrus, but with an earthy bitter taste. It’s easy to detect in curries, many types if North African tagines, it is also used as a colouring agent in margarine and it’s the colour that makes mustard mustard!

Recommended Daily Dosage:
¼ tea spoon daily 1 hour before bed in a glass/cup of hot/warm drink of your choice preferably milk could be tea, coffee, hot chocolate. ADD a twist of ground pepper to help with digestion.
